SMT. SHEILA DIKSHIT
Chief Minister
Delhi
Gandhi ji at his time gave
importance to everything be
it a music, khadi,
importance to handicrafts,
importance was also given to
a weaver. All these small
things he had done and said
during his time was neither
expensive nor it is required
to give some economic theory
or political science.
There are very minute things
which I think if we accept
them we could become idols
for everybody else and I
even think or I don’t
remember that Gandhiji
proposed any such thought or
any theory which his common
man has found hard to
understand. He was the one
who stood against the
British rule and started the
salt movement. Salt as
everybody knows has its own
importance in everybody’s
life. He started this
movement and said we would
generate our own salt but
would not eat yours. This
gave a very big message to
everybody. It even moved
everybody who was not a part
of that movement. It left
behind the nuclear weapons,
or airplane full of nuclear
bomb with this very simple
idea.
Same way he also said I spin
the spinning wheel because I
get internal peace and I
also get time for
introspection and it works a
balm for my nervous system.
He always had such a simple
thinking but high thoughts.
We should propound theories
for humanity for this
individual theory, his
thinking, his way of living
should be kept in mind.
Today when we face anything
hard we remember Gandhiji a
lot so that we should lead a
simple life, we should
remain neat and clean but
should have high thoughts,
clothes should be neat and
clean no matter how much
inexpensive they are. I also
think that if we walk on the
simple path as told by him
there would be no hatred for
anybody, and the ambitions,
aspirations which are born
though this simplicity goes
on the way of simplicity and
goes on the way of less
expenditure rather than
creating a competition where
we are always in this
opportunity that I have one
car and the other is having
two and the other one thinks
that if he has got 2 cars I
should have 4 in spite of
the fact that he can travel
only in one. Likewise one
can wear only one pair of
earrings in both of the
ears.
We should always think noble
things and this comes though
simplicity but not with the
number of bungalows we have
or cars we have not even
with the number of trips we
have made abroad and of the
most important things we
should remember about
Gandhiji is that the most in
him was his simplicity.
Today if we think that he
might be not as much big as
he was if he had all the
luxuries then we all know
that when he was in London
and someone asked him “Mr.
Gandhiji you are wearing
such a small loin cloth
around your and you have to
make a presence in front of
Britain’s King so aren’t you
feeling some interiority
because you are in such
small cloth with which your
body is not even fully
covered” so he answered it
very simply that he is the
King and he has worn clothes
for us.
So these small-small things
as far we study Gandhiji his
simplicity comes in front of
us. Not only his simplicity
but also simplicity in his
thoughts, in his expressions
his way of living and if
possible we could mould all
these things in our life. I
think we would become
greater in the eyes of our
own consciousness. And if we
are great in the eyes of our
consciousness and of course
we are able to make our own
place in its eyes.
Through all these words I
want to thank Nirmala Ji for
giving me this little
opportunity in such less
time to present my views
Gandhiji. But Gandhiji
thoughts are undebatable but
keeping in mind the fact
that I was given such a less
time so I presented all my
views which I think were
important and I thank all of
you for that. |
